VPAA Applying to become a 21st Century Community Learning Center
The School District of Lee County (SDLC) is applying for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant (Title IV B) at 2 sites in Lehigh Acres, Florida:
SDLC requests to operate 2 programs to increase achievement of the lowest 25% of students in Reading/Math; improve behavior in Social Emotional Skills; Health and Fitness and; facilitate creativity through collaborative teamwork in an afterschool intervention program.
G. Weaver Hipps -1200 Homestead Rd N., serving 60 students grades 3-5 and Veterans Park, 49 Homestead Rd S. serving 100 students grades 3-8, both operating Monday- Thursday from 2:15 -4:45, September 9- May 25, 2022-2026, in Lehigh Acres, Florida, 33936 .
Schools will serve 20 students per activity daily including:
- STEAM Inventionland Makerspace/using FOCUS Math Tutoring;
- SPARK Health and Fitness including nutrition;
- Caring School Communities Literacy (SEL)/ using Peer Assisted Learning;
- Parent Engagement Events- Book Club; STEAM, Literacy and Career events throughout the year.
- Summer Camp June 6-10; 8:30 to 1:30- NASA Build to Launch, including transportation, Breakfast and Lunch.
All program activities are part of the ESSA (Every Students Succeeds Act) Levels of Evidence (Johns Hopkins University) or What Works Clearinghouse (Institute of Education Sciences) and will be taught by Certified Teachers and facilitated by Paraprofessionals at the school. The programs will offer dinner; snack and homework assistance as well as tutoring and daily transportation free of charge for families who qualify for the services. Staff, students and parents were surveyed on the programs and services that would be most valuable to the schools as part of school improvement efforts and learning loss due to the pandemic.
